Hi all,

New to this forum, happily checking out Capture Polar.

A short question: the animations of the smoke and rotating gobos seem to be jittery in my Live view. It looks like the gobos are shaking although they should be turning slowly.

Here is a short screen grab of how this looks in my live view: http://arttech.nl/shaking-animation.mov

Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?

Thanks, Mattijs

Mac OS 10.6
Capture Polar 2.8.12
Using the Student Edition Club project.

Hey.

I'm new here, but i have noticed that same "feature".

I've came to conclusion that it "flickers" like that when software doesn't know what quality settings to use. It shakes it between +-2% quality. Try to resize window just a little. Sometimes it helps.

Win7 64bit
Intel Q9400
8Gb DDR3
Nvidia 680GT
Using : Capture Solo edition

Hi Kimble,

Thanks for the note. Indeed I can't seem to reproduce this now.

It's definitely something with the rendering, not the actual rotation. I remember the gobo projections on the still floor turning smoothly while the beams seemed to be shaking.

Hi,

Your diagnose in this discussion is correct - the flicker is caused by Capture's constant dynamic quality adjustments. It's quite trigger happy in the latest release and we're trying to do something about it in terms of a fix for the next version!

Simply zooming in or out a little bit is likely to change the performance prediction enough to make the flicker go away.

hi i'm new to capture polar and lighting design. I'm using the student version to help learn. But I can't seem to get the the moving heads to show gobos and rotate them. I did a search and this is the closest post that came up.

Do I need a dmx controller in order to show rotating gobos on the moving heads? I noticed the "student edition club.c2s" does have rotating gobos as the file is opened up.

Thanks for the help and I look forward to learning more about capture polar and stage lighting from the forum!

Hi Rom

And answer to that question is YES. You need a console OR a free software console like Chamsys or Compulite vector PC to use gobo indexing or rotating. You need console also to rotate prisma.

Compulite
Chamsys

I'm sorry if there is a way to rotate gobos without console, but this is the info that i got right now.

I really would like to rotate gobos without console too. :)

Thanks for the reply Kimble. How will I go about using hardware instead, like a "

Chauvet Obey 70 DMX Lighting Controller" with capture polar??

With that console i think that you have to buy a dmx input option to your PC/MAC that is supported by Capture. I think that cheapest way to connect that console is to buy USB<->DMX that could be used as input. But i don't have any clue what devices Capture could use.

I recommend that you ask this from Capture support.

Or wait that staff sees this forum thread and answers here.
