Hello,

I would like to use Capture as a visualizer for plots created in Vectorworks Spotlight 2022 instead of Vision.
What is the recommended method ? MVR ? or DWG then Data ?
Could anyone point me to some detailed documentation ? At this points my tests are not even importing the patch data correctly ...

Many thanks,

sam

I can only give my workflow.....I export all fittings as MVR and everything else as 3DS out of VW. Note that all fittings will export & import in their VW layers if you use MVR. Very helpful if you want to keep the layers in Capture.

Import the MVR and 3DS files via the import model command. When importing MVR files, you will probably need to identify some lighting fixtures. You will probably need to tweak some textures on 3D objects too - they dont always transfer.

Also - your patch info should tranfer correctly using MVR, but you may need to correct the fixture modes manually.

Why would you export both MVR and 3DS - is there anything missing from the MVR?

Hi Lars

The reason I export to both MVR & 3DS is that VW doesnt export all objects when just using MVR - in my experience. So as a rule, I export only light fittings as MVR then all other objects as 3DS.

Fascinating. Please do take the time to report this to the VectorWorks folks!

We just did a test in our office. It appears that you can use only an .mvr export, but under "Select which objects to export to the .mvr file." You need to check "Use 3ds format". This exports to MVR using the older 3ds file format, rather than glTF/glb.

When you do not do this sometimes Geometry other then fixtures and trusses is not imported into Capture.

We did the same test using Wyswiyg and if we imported the same .mvr file from Vectorworks into Wysiwyg, wyg imported the geometry just fine using either setting in Vectorworks.

After having watched the excellent importing textures tutorial that Lars had done recently, I was keen to get 3DS files out of my workflow (Lars had suggested we try to avoid OBJ & 3DS files). So I created a 3D box in Vectorworks, exported this as an MVR (without the 3DS option) then tried to import this into Capture. The import failed and got this msg:

ERROR: Geometry file '11fdb83a-e6dc-451c-8a75-0496ac7a49f5.glb' format unsupported (only 3DS is supported).
Done loading 0 polygons and 0 lines.
There were errors during import - please review them before continuing.

Im a little confused as I thought the .glb format was supported.

Capture supports glTF/GLB files, but not when embedded in MVR.
