Could you be more specific on what do you mean by "fan a selection of generic fixtures"?

I mean to fan them out in an ACL style.  If i select 10 fixtures is there a way to fan them out, at the moment they all move the same way.

Capture does not support such functionality at the moment. We noted this as a new feature suggestion. Thank you for your feedback.

Yes a request from me for this too. By conincidence it is something I stumbled across today and couldn't find a way to do it.
