I have an RTX 2080 Super along with a Intel I9 9900K and it absolutely crushes renders at max rendering settings. I've never dipped below 60 FPS. The only time I do lag is when I turn on multi-element fixtures, they really bring down the performance. 

I would say just avoid using a super large number of multi-instance fixtures if you are running at maximum rendering settings. 

got it -- yeah it just astounds me that GLP X4 Bar 20s, Sceptrons, etc can make such powerful laptops struggle. Obviously you can turn off "throws light" but then you're not getting an accurate idea of how it will appear in person. How do other softwares like MA3D and WYG not suffer from this? Using MA3D with imported GLP Bars, they look accurate and dont slow down the framerate much at all. 

I opened a large project on a system running rtx 2080 TI and 16 core I9 clocked to 5ghz. Compared to my normal capture workstation, it was like flying a modern day fighter jet when your previous plane was a crop duster.

The biggest noticable difference for me was when running ma2 on the capture machine. Capture usually slows down when I open ma2, and this does effect frame rate as well as navigation and other general tasks. On the crazy 2080/I9 system, not only did I not see or feel any reduction in any performance, it was at least an order of magnitude more responsive.

Worth it? Depends on how long you spend behind your capture machine and what your charging. In my case, I am complelty sold.

I know there are new chipset and gpu's comming in December. So I've budgeted accordingly to make sure I am ready.

Plan at this stage is to build seperate system in .asmall to mid size form factor with excessive cooling. This will run capture only, while my older pc can take care of all things ma.

My rational behind building a seperate system is pretty based on the performance tips on the website and in the documentation. Have a read of those. They don't cover technical details like how or if capture supports multicore processing, or what card Or system configuration will be best and I get why. Thats totally up to you, your budget and how you use capture. But there are some really good answers to simple questions people might have when building a system for capture, that are very good to know.
