I'm trying to run Hog 4 PC with the Student demo, but not getting any response. Hog 4 shows that Capture is connected as a visualizer, I've tried patching some fixtures from the list, etc.

No, the sample project is not required in order to connect, you can create a new project if you wish. If Hog 4 shows it's connected, do you see the Hog 4 DMX universes on in the "External Universes" list in Capture?
In the External Universes list I see: Hog 3, Universe 1 (1 - 512)
If you see the Hog 3 universe listed in External Universes and it's linked to a universe in your project (that is, listed on the left hand list on the third column), then you should have everything in place! Have you got a view in Live mode?
