If I set a layer to be invisible in a layer set, why does the geometry still block light? Though the object is not visible?

Let me know if I am setting something wrong! I'm just turing on and off the layer in the set, not messing with the "affects light" setting.

Thats how Capture works, unfortunately :(
U have to select the objects and make them hidden.
I sometimes use scenes to move the object away and back again.

gotcha! I had a hunch but wanted to make sure it was not something that I was doing wrong.

Seems to me that it should be looked at for the future as its quite confusing, for instance I have a tour that has differ acts with different sets and when I switched off one set I still could not light my drummer on another layer! I was really confused!

BTW thanks for all your library objects, I admire your work and wish I had more time to contribute and offer things back to the community myself! You are a cool guy, beer on me if I ever come across you!

As Hebbe wrote you should explore the Scenes feature which is there to cover exactly the case you described. Feel free to check in our manual for how the scenes work.

Thanks! I know how scenes work, I'm just a little confused if that is the thought process behind how it should work, seems more like a work around to me. In other 3d apps I don't have to move the physical geometry to different locations, I just can switch it on and off. Scenes are a great work around...

Hi,

The reasoning behind it all is as follows; there are times when you need to remove objects from stage physically and there are times when you just don't want to see them in a particular view or for a period of time. The physical alternative is controlled through the "hidden" property and scenes, which can be done on a per-object basis. The second alternative is done through layers and layer sets, which is not available on a per-object basis. Regardless of what happens, both approaches will be needed and we believe that the term "scene" better fits when stuff go on and off stage. Hence, this is not likely to change.

Hello :-)

I might be blind, but I can's see Layer Sets anywhere. The Manual talks about Layers and that is fine, but cant find how to make Layer Sets, to Hide/Show layers
.
I want to make a layer not visible, but not deleted, as to take out House Rig, but leave in my Touring Rig in a plot.

How to do that?

Capture has evolved and changed through out the years. Nowadays, you will need to use Filters if you want to hide a layer
