This is a surprisingly significant limitation in the current Capture → Production Assist workflow:

Capture currently cannot create a structural tube-to-tube connection between two truss objects.

A very simple real-world example:

You have a main truss.
You suspend a U-Frame underneath it using couplers.
You hang fixtures from the U-Frame.

This is a perfectly normal rigging configuration.

In Capture, however, the U-Frame can only be positioned underneath the main truss. There is no way to tell Capture:

“This tube is structurally connected to that tube.”

And that becomes a much bigger problem when using Production Assist.

The structure needs a continuous load path:

Fixture → U-Frame → Coupler → Main Truss → Rigging Point

If Capture cannot represent the connection between the U-Frame and the main truss, Production Assist cannot receive the complete structural system for calculation.

What I would like to see

A generic structural tube-to-tube connection tool.

It should allow us to:

  • select a tube/chord on one structural truss object;
  • connect it to a tube/chord on another structural truss object;
  • position or slide that connection along the tube where appropriate;
  • use it independently of truss manufacturer;
  • and, most importantly, transfer that connection to Production Assist as an actual structural connection.

This should not be limited to one particular Global Truss U-Frame or solved by adding manufacturer-specific magnets.

The underlying problem is much broader:

Structural truss objects need to be attachable to other structural truss objects by their tubes.

That would cover U-Frames, drop structures and many other real-world constructions using couplers.

Why I think this matters

The Capture → Production Assist integration has the potential to be an incredibly powerful workflow:

Design the rig once → transfer it → structurally analyse it.

But for that concept to work, the Capture model needs to be capable of representing the actual load path.

Having structural U-Frames in the library is great. But if we cannot structurally attach them to the truss they are physically hanging from, their usefulness in an integrated structural workflow is severely limited.

This is not about making snapping slightly more convenient.

It is about being able to model a real structural connection that exists in the actual rig.

I contacted Capture Support about this and they confirmed that tube-to-tube structural connections between trusses are currently not supported and suggested posting the request here.

If you are using Capture with Production Assist – or regularly build U-Frames, drops or truss-on-truss structures – please vote for this request.

I think this would close a very important gap in the structural workflow.
