Do you think it would be posible to generate PSN data from the DMX movers in Capture. That means that if you move a hang structure with a dmx mover (via actual DMX or manually), anything that reads PSN knows where it is.
Vice versa, would it be possible for caputre to read PSN data (from a fly system) and move the DMX movers accordingly?
Capture does receive PSN, add a "Motion Construct" item from the built-in objects. If Capture is receiving PSN you can then set the "Motion Construct" parameter within the item, it will list any incoming tracking objects there. You can't drive a dmx-mover directly, but you could stack a dmx mover onto a Motion Construct and set your dmx mover to it's zero position.
Interesting idea about using capture to generate PSN, what would you use that for? I wouldn't try and use it to drive physical rigging, due to the various safety implications. Having capture receive real-time data from a rigging system (or other real-world tracking systems) is a more usual workflow. Not sure when i'd take data from capture over real-world values.
Thank you for your reply. I forgot about the extra step it took to connect incoming PSN data to move objects in Capture.
The usecase to have Capture generate PSN would be in pre-programming, when connected to a console. If I have a set of moving lights change heigth during a show, I usually connect them to a dmx movers, that I programm into the show. But then my console does not know that those lights have changed heigth. So instead of the fixtures automatically keep locked to their target, they loose focus and I have to do that by hand. It is especially these kind of more advanced programming that I would lke to be able to do in previz, rather than under pressure.
Ahh, I think I understand. What console are you using, presumably MA2 or 3? When you're in the actual show, are you receiving PSN and linking that to the fixture locations / hang positions? i'd be interested to hear your workflow for that.
I suppose a workround would be to use something else to generate the positional data and send PSN both to Capture and your console. You could use SP grid (https://stageprecision.com/) to do this quite easily. based off of an incoming trigger (dmx/osc/pretty much anything) to change the position of objects and send PSN from those objects to your network. For the purposes of pre-programming you could do this without a license, although it will stop in/out connections periodically to prevent use during a show.
