PSN tracker as follow target for moving head fixtures? (Symphony)

Hi,

I'm working on a UWB-based tracking system (custom, sending PSN v2.03 multicast) and I've successfully
connected it to Capture 2024 Symphony.

What works:
- Capture receives the PSN stream and displays the trackers
- I can link a Motion Construct to a PSN tracker — the object moves on stage in real time

What I'm trying to achieve:
- Have a moving head fixture point at the Motion Construct as it moves — using the tracker as a follow/focus
  target for pan/tilt
- I don't need Capture to control intensity, color, or any other parameter — just aim the beam at the
tracked position

What I've found so far:
- Motion Constructs seem designed to move objects in space, not to act as targets for fixtures
- The Nexum motion tracking page mentions deeper integration, but Nexum doesn't appear available in the
store

Is this possible with Symphony, or is it a Nexum/OEM-only feature? Any workaround?

Thanks!

In the end (when the show is live) this needs to be perofmed by the lighting control solution, am I right? Woud it be possible to get that working at this stage?

Hi Floriaan,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the console would be the natural place for this, but ONYX doesn't support PSN tracking natively, which is why I was exploring whether Capture could bridge the gap:

PSN tracker → Capture auto-follow → CITP back to ONYX.

From what I can see, Motion Constructs move objects in space but can't be used as a focus target for fixtures.

It looks like a fun project! I am curious to see it.

Have you considered using Chataigne as a middle man?

We are not in the business of controlling anything live, so this is not something you will be able to do with Capture.

Hi Lars, Floriaan,

Thanks for the clear answer. That makes sense, Capture is a visualizer, not a control layer.

For anyone finding this thread later: my approach going forward is to compute pan/tilt values directly in my tracking software and send them via Art-Net to the console. The PSN side still works great for visualizing tracker positions in Capture alongside the fixture output.

Thanks again for the quick responses!

@Floriaan Here's a quick look at Topos in action. The dashboard shows live UWB tracker positions on a stage map, with PSN output feeding Capture for visualization. Next step: computing pan/tilt directly and sending Art-Net to the console. Work in progress!
