When importing an MVR made in capture to GrandMA3, I end up with a lot of "Grouping" objects which usually contain nothing, but sometimes contain fixtures depending on whether I have grouped them in Capture.

Typically, I will make an "LX Only" MVR file which ignores all the geometry and gives me just the fixtures so I can keep the showfile lightweight.

It would be great to have a couple of checkboxes in the MVR output dialogue such as "Fixtures only" and "Ignore grouping" to speed up this process and tidy up the exported files.

Thanks

Did you also ask the good people at MA lighting to have these checkboxes on importing an .mvr file? I would bet on both horses here ;-)

Oh, believe me - I have asked them for a lot of things and this is definitely one of them.

Still, I’d like to be able to export files that I can send to people knowing that they’re as tidy as they can be.

If you are to believe the people behind MVR then one of the ideas is to be able to take a file through several softwares, each adding or changing some information. In order for that to work then the fundamental document structure needs to remain intact as it travels and you can't have softwares doing the type of special filtering that you're describing.

I think you have to turn to MA to ask how this is supposed to work.

Interesting. My current workaround is to select all fixtures, mash the ungroup shortcut a few times and then check the “selected only” checkbox before exporting. If filters gained the ability to filter by type of object then we’d also be halfway there I guess.

Thanks
