I got a reply from Support today.
The solution they suggested works
Figured I would post it here so if anyone else has the issue and does a search
-----------------------------------------
My situation:
- I use a computer, directly connected via Cat5 to a chauvet AN2 artnet dongle to run Show Buddy
- The AN2 dongle has an IP address 2.0.0.1.
- I am using Uni-Cast because I was told that is more reliable.
(I'm able to explain my situation better than I did in my original post, because I now know what caused it)
Capture support suggested that if I want to use Uni Cast, leave the primary send as is, and set up a secondary ARTNet send in Show buddy to send ARTNet to Capture at address 127.0.0.1.

Based on the information you've provided, when you switch from broadcast to uni-cast mode in your Art Net configuration, the data is sent only to the specific IP address you've set (your AN2 dongle at 2.0.0.1). This means Capture, which is running on a different IP address, stops receiving the Art Net stream entirely - that's why your visualizer goes dark while your physical lights continue working perfectly.
You have several options to solve this:
- Use broadcast mode when you need both Capture and your physical lights
- Set up Art Net routing/merging to send to multiple destinations
- Run Capture on a separate network interface
- Use a dedicated Art-net node that can split the signal to both destinations
Suggested solutions:
- Use broadcast mode (easiest):
- Keep network adapter at 2.0.0.2
- Set Show Buddy to broadcast
- Both devices receive data automatically
- For uni-cast mode, configure Show Buddy to send to multiple destinations:
- Primary: 2.0.0.1 (AN2 dongle)
- Secondary: 127.0.0.1 or 2.0.0.2 (for Capture)
Since Capture 2024 removed manual Art-net settings, it relies on either broadcast traffic or being specifically included in uni-cast destinations.
I hope all the provided information will assist you in completing your project.
